UPDATE: Rhett is now eating pellets
in place of Critical Care Herbivore. His new family will need
to make sure he gets his
back teeth checked regularly but, at this time, he is having no
problem eating! Because Rhett is so peaceful with other rabbits,
he spends his days on his “introspection mat”, free
in the rabbit room. The “Introspection Mat” is sitting
by the refrigerator in the rabbit room and Rhett spends most of
his day there, eating hay and enjoying an occasional romp around
the room, before returning to his mat.
Rhett was surrendered to the Animal Refuge League
but we don’t
know who the owner was. He, along with several other animals, was
brought into our intake room and the owner left before we even
knew the animals were there! The vet estimates that Rhett is 3-5
years old. This guy is extremely tolerant of everything in his
environment: He has visited the front desk at the ARL on a leash,
hanging out under one of the desks. He is not afraid of dogs and
gets along with bunnies that do not beat him up! Rhett is considered “Special
Needs” because he has malocclusion. This means that his jaw
does not line up properly and his new owner will need to work closely
with their vet, visiting as often as every six months, to check
the back teeth which can’t be seen without the use of a device
specially made for that. Rhett will also need to have his diet
of hay supplemented with Critical Care which can be purchased through
a vet or online, to prevent diarrhea. This beautiful, sweet male
lop will do well with gentle children. All he wants is to be near
people, getting lots of love, cuddles and attention! Are you the
family of Rhett’s dreams? If so, come meet this wonderful
guy at the ARL!
