Birmingham & Mia
return to adoption page

Animal IDs: A057130; A059954
Age: 7 years; 2 years

It is not uncommon for us to see depression set in for the animals who have been patiently waiting for their new families for too long.  Such became the situation with our beloved Birmingham.  We couldn't blame him.  Our darling, handsome giant had survived abandonment in April 2011, come through medical care at ARL with his spirits intact, and then he waited.  We waited.  Everyone who visits notices Birmingham and comments on how handsome & big he is, but still... he waits.  We don't know what bunnies think, but we are sure he was beginning to wonder if anyone could love him; did anyone care enough to be with him & want to bring him home?  It's not his fault that he's white and has pink eyes.  The sad, wary look that was in his eyes when he first arrived was creeping back in them. We had to do something.

Enter Mia!  She made her journey to ARL from another shelter. As soon as we saw Mia, we were sure that she would be just the thing too soothe Birmingham's soul.  She's been a welcome addition to his life, and now the Birmingham we all fell in love with has returned. Can't tell them apart?  Birmingham is larger & has a head that's more square.  Mia has a dulap, that bunch of skin & fur under her chin. In these photos, she's closer to the hay bale.  She enjoyed her carrot so much that she got some on her dulap!

Mia is 2 years old to Birmingham's 7 years.  As New Zealand rabbits, both of them have long lives still ahead of them.  Mia is energetic, curious, and wants to be involved with her world, not content to just watch it go by in her cage.   She wants to be free to hop and jump and be with the humans.  Birmingham is still reserved and likes to hang back to watch her.  He is her protector.  It was love at first sniff; they are now a bonded pair and must be adopted together.

This new couple has one more wish: to find a family who will love them as much as they love each other. Do you have time to love them, care for them, give them space to hop, carrots to eat, and hay to use for everything?  Their needs are simple.  Until you come in to meet them and adopt them, they will continue to wait - together.
