Update 6/2/09:
Corona and Sophia are now a bonded pair! They went into foster
care together and can not be separated. Both of them have been
with the shelter for much too long a time! In the early dawn of
the morning they like to ring bells and toss around jingly cat
toys to get your attention. As they are living now in a free-range
play room it is unknown of how they will adapt to a cage together
again, but if they have free- range in their new home, owners beware,
like all rabbits, they chew. The probable reason of why they have
been overlooked is because they tend to have a ‘live their
own lives’ personality and their future human companions
will need to be understanding about their independence, especially
Sophia. Don’t think that they don’t need love and attention,
because all bunnies do! They just need someone to respect their
space while spending time with them and not feel insulted if they
ignore you. They’ll be slow to warm up to you. They are litterbox
trained and their foster Mom is getting them use to being in harnesses
to go for walks outside. Corona is the more sociable bun but he’ll
let you know when enough is enough. He loves being petted on his
head and getting back scratches too! Most rabbits don’t like
to be picked up because that means all four feet are off the ground
and that makes them very nervous and Sophia especially doesn’t
like it. They really love each other and need to be together, they
love laying out side by side. A home with teenagers or older is
the best situation for these guys. They are afraid of dogs but
that doesn’t mean a docile dog wouldn’t make a good
match. If you think you can love and respect these animals for
who they are please contact the Animal Refuge League to schedule
an appointment to meet this pair of sovereign royalty!
Sophia was surrendered to the Animal Refuge League
on August 7, 2008 with Ringo and another rabbit named Isabel.
These bunnies were originally purchased for three children for
Easter. To their dismay, Ringo is a boy! Isabel and Sophia were
pregnant. Sophia gave birth to her kittens on August 12 and has
been in foster since the kits could leave the nest. Sophia is
now spayed and ready for her forever home, where she will be
a real member of the family. While in foster, Sophia enjoyed
being out of her cage and would lay down on the floor, stretching
her entire body out as much as she could. She lived with cats
and dogs in foster, and is not afraid of the vacuum cleaner!
Can you find it in your heart to finally give this wonderful
girl the life she deserves? If so, come see her at the ARL!
