The ARL has a few gerbils! Stop by and see some of our fantastic critters. Daily handling is required to keep all small critters tame and if a gerbil has become too squirmy and panicky, gentle handling is better than neglect because the behavior will only worsen. For bedding, aspen shavings should be used instead of pine or cedar, as these cause respiratory complications. Gerbils do best in pairs being the social creatures that they are, but this little one came in solo. They are extremely active creatures so a proper wheel should keep them busy traveling all over! They do like fruits and veggies and should be given those and snacks as treats.
