Ages: 2 months-1 year- Unknown
The Animal Refuge League has a handful of hamsters
that are in need of attentive caretakers. These hamsters are
not available
for breeding purposes; these hamsters are the products of hamsters
not properly sexed or separated. Hamsters are solitary animals
once they reach approximately two months of age and must be kept
separate the rest of their lives. They like it that way. Daily
handling is required to keep hamsters tame and if a hamster has
become too squirmy and panicky, gentle handling is better than
neglect
because the behavior will only worsen. For bedding, aspen shavings
should be used instead of pine or cedar, as these cause respiratory
complications. Being nocturnal animals they are up at night and
sleeping during the day so try to keep stirring them to a minimum
because too little nap time can cause them to become ill. They
are extremely active creatures so a proper wheel should keep them
busy traveling all over! They do like fruits and veggies and should
be given those and snacks as treats. Come see our little bundles
of love today!
