Update from
Foster Mom: 3/22/09
Shortie is such a busy bunny; Foster Mom wonders what the family
did without her skills before she arrived!
She is an expert decorator, rearranging the items in her pen,
removing the newspaper from the bottom of her litter box, making
confetti, and spreading it around the fence. Paper bags are also
perfect for making confetti, particularly if they are in hiding
and can't be seen by the other family members. She also makes intricate
designs in the towels that line her pen. Not only does she make
great shapes, both small and large in the towels, but she leaves
the pieces that she ripped out delicately next to her designs.
It is a great stress-reliever for her, as she does her best work
when she can't get her way and come out of the pen.
She takes her job at quality control seriously. She oversees each
step in the cage-cleaning process and doesn't hesitate to push
things around so that they re-enter her cage in the proper order.
She also hops into the bunny supply box and does not stop until
she's gotten to the bottom of all the items in the box, occasionally
sampling goodies to make sure that they are appropriate for the
guinea pigs in the family. She follows the Feeder around when pellets
and greens are passed out to the guinea pigs, making sure each
of them gets the right amount, before taking her own helping and
eating it with plenty of flare. She usually dances around her food
in praise and thanks before diving in.
She combines private investigator & watchbun
efficiently. When she's not decorating or inspecting on the premises,
she is
lurking behind the glider chair, observing the comings and goings
of Foster Mom, and foster cat and guinea pig siblings. If any of
them come near her staked-out territory, she is very quick to
defend her spot to the death! No man or beast may pass! The job
is not
all serious, however; she will also leave her post to come over
and say hello, dancing around Foster Mom's feet and giving occasional
nose nudges to the cats. The guinea pigs must be evil, however,
because they never get the royal welcome.
She's an Olympic-worth athlete! Shortie appears to be training
for the Beach to Beacon road race for this summer. She will race
from one end of the living room, do a 360 in the air with a single
hop, and zip back across the room at breakneak speed. Woe to the
human or the animal that gets in the way of this determined bun!
Training takes many minutes, and after a break, she's at it again,
working to improve her speed. With her sleek blackness, she's just
a blurr going by!
When training and decorating and supervising is done, there is
nothing better to do than flop onto your side, spread your back
feet out, and totally own the living room floor, and Shortie prefected
this skill with flurish. With her cute little ears sticking out
to the side, or even strait up in the air, she surveys her kindom
and its subjects. There is no doubt that she rules the living room
at her foster home, and Foster Mom has no doubt that she will totally
own her forever family's hearts after a review of her skills. She
will definitely be a hard working member of the family!

Shortie
is a shy little gal. The stress of being at the ARL has gotten
to her and she’s having
trouble adapting. Her socialization needs much work! Rabbits
tend to think of their cage as their own
space and generally do not want any people invading their safe
haven and she can tend to lunge. During a routine visit it was
noted that
she had cataracts. It’s unknown whether she’s had
them all her life or if they’re just progressing. Luckily
her right eye she only has a pinpoint cataract but she has been
treated
for
E. Cuniculi, just for precautions. For more information on E.
Cuniculi visit here (http://www.rabbit.org/journal/3-2/e-cuniculi.html).
With patience and tenderness we’re sure this petite little
girl can be a sweet treat!
