profile Pepper is a 10-year-old purebred black lab who was surrendered to us with his companion, a malti-poo who has since been adopted. At 10 years of age, Pepper has more spunk then we thought. He loves going on his daily walks, is very affectionate towards people, and thinks dogs are pretty fun, as well. Pepper is showing some signs of age related arthritis and the staff recommends a daily Glucosamine supplement to help keep him mobile and active. Pepper is awaiting a home where he can hang out with his people, go for lots of car rides, and enjoy an endless supply of stuffed toys. Pepper is slightly overweight, so helping him shed a few pounds will make his joints more comfortable, as well. Like labs the world over, he constantly thinks he is starving and would walk miles for the slightest tidbit of food, so new owners will need to steel themselves to be firm about set mealtimes and sensible portions. This personable old fellow is finding the noisy kennels a bit unnerving, and he needs a quiet new family where he’ll get the companionship he craves. Pepper is great with small dogs but can be pushy with larger ones, perhaps a “good offense being the best defense” reaction. He is housebroken and has reportedly lived successfully with cats and kids, as well as with horses, cattle, and goats. He will sound the alarm when strangers approach. Pepper’s response to stress is to lick his feet, a recipe for hot spots which get infected quickly. He’ll need a quiet home with a predictable routine, and the regular vet care all older pets require. If you love labs, you’ll love Pepper. We promise he’ll love you back. download adopter survey learn about manners classes donate to help the animals |
