profile

Personal changes in Purdy’s family and a then a move to an apartment, proved to be very stressful on this little guy; and then to be surrendered to the shelter. So many changes after being with one family for 10+ years. Purdy settled into his foster home very nicely and has shown that with some patience and love he can handle changes. His former family reported that with the move to the apartment, he began marking inside the home and barking to the point that neighbors complained. Purdy has been a perfect gentleman in his foster home and has only marked twice inside the home. Most times, once a dog is neutered, this tendency slowly goes away. Since Purdy is an older dog, his new family will want to use a crate when he is left alone and when they are unable to supervise his free time until he no longer feels the need to mark. Purdy has excellent dog skills with dogs of all sizes, is gentle with kittens, and adores teenage girls. We are looking for a family with respectful children over the age of 10 years and will not place him in an apartment or condo, due to the barking. Larger dogs in his new home must be gentle, as Purdy weighs only 5 ½ lbs. Purdy is not a designer accessory and thinks it’s rude of people to pick him up constantly. He prefers to get to know a person first, then enjoys cuddling in their laps. So, if you’ve been looking for a toy-sized dog to carry around like a purse, Purdy is not the guy for you. His foster mom says of him, “Purdy is the most well socialized Chihuahua she has ever met and thoroughly enjoyed the time he has spent with her and her family.” If you’d like to meet this senior, pint-sized fella, please call the shelter to set up an appointment.
