UPDATE:
Our lovely little Louie has been enjoying lots of attention with his nightly
foster family and his daytime mentor. His favorite people tell us that
his perfect day would be laying around the house on a comfy cushion, going
in the yard for potty and play time, and then maybe taking a ride in the
car. Louie had the opportunity to attend a Portland Seadogs game and led
the parade of dogs around the field at the Bark in the Park event. At
night, when Louie is sleeping, he suffers from tremors. While this is
not a concern, his foster mom says that it can be frightening to see and
can take some time to get accustomed to. Even though he has been receiving
special treatment while at the shelter, Louie's true desire is to be part
of a family once again.
Every animal we have
here is appreciated for its individuality. It’s true that we are
all unique. But it must be said that Louie is uniquer than most, and that
is why we love him so. Before he was born Louie’s mother contracted
distemper, and, long story short, he has some physical quirks as a result.
His skull is rounded, his nose tips up and the pad is a little hardened,
he has a misaligned jaw and recently required dental work for painful
teeth that had gaps in their enamel, and at night he twitches in his sleep.
We’re finding all that pretty easy to live with, because Louie is
so easy to live with. The staff feels he would do best in a home without
cats, however. Back at the shelter during the day, he spends a lot of
time behind our reception desk, where he enjoys low-key attention in between
comfy naps on his bed. If he didn’t stand up now and then, we’d
hardly know he was there. This very sweet, well-mannered, easily intimidated
guy wouldn’t enjoy a new home with a lot of commotion, but if you
and your peaceful home would be a perfect fit with Louie, come on in for
a quiet introduction.
