Fraye is one feline that has beaten all the odds. When the ARL was at the Kennebec shelter to rescue some cats and relieve their overcrowding, the feline manager asked if we had space for one more. “There’s a gray cat in there. He has severe ear mites and is intact, but his eyes are so loving.” Of course, another carrier was added to the small sedan and Fraye made the trip to Westbrook, where he was checked by the vet and placed in a foster home. He had huge lesions on both ears from scratching ear mites and was significantly malnourished. It was hoped that he would gain weight, that his coat would improve and his ears heal. Unfortunately, Fraye would need another miracle because he continued to lose weight and periodically vomited. With many tears from his foster, Fraye was returned to the shelter to find his core problem. It took a few weeks and much frustration, but a diagnosis emerged. Again, Fraye was resurrected, proving his magical power. This loving, playful gray kitty with his huge head and skinny body, was allergic to his food. With a new diet and a small amount of steroid every other day, he finally regained his health and is now on the adoption floor. His needs are so minimal compared to the joy on his face when he interacts with a visitor. He rubs against the cage , purrs and meows to be taken home. He is a Meet Your Match orange sidekick, so it will not take him long to accept your trust .
