profile This handsome cat with sweetness apparent in his eyes
is so very, very scared that he froze in place when assessed here at
the shelter. Shortbread,
the warm shade of butter-brown that gives him his name, was found as
a stray in a garage. It is difficult to know what kind of trauma may
have frightened this boy, but it will take an exceptional person with
lots of cat experience to bring him back into a world where humans =
love and trust to Shortbread. He came into the shelter in good shape,
physically; he really is a gorgeous guy, but he tested out (with definite
signs of hope and a desire to trust) as timid to the max. For instance,
he sat in his carrier and did not move a muscle. When he was gently set
loose from the carrier, he hunched over. When approached, he froze again,
trying to be invisible. Hugging was out, and when tested for sensitivity,
he didn’t move a muscle. But there is a light at the end of Shortbread’s
tunnel. When patted, Shortbread showed definite signs of liking the touch.
When called, he made eye contact, which is a sign that he is waiting
to see what is expected of him. Hopefully, his forever dedicated friend
or friends will come in for a visit and will take the time that Shortbread
only needs time and affection to be brought back to the world of play,
good food, and most of all, love. One look into his eyes and it’s
easy to see that he desperately wants that, too. |
